Tertiary sides competing in the 2016 Global Sporting Platforms (GSP) Basketball League have ended the first round of the season at different spots in the standings reflecting on the varied success recorded by the teams.
University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Catholic University College, Ghana (CUCG) Saints and Sunyani Polytechnic lie fifth, second and seventh in the standings after seven games played at the three league venues.
For Saints, what started out as a rocky campaign, turned out great for the side heading to the final games of the first round. The side’s 25-20 win over LIR Royals gave the side a winning record of four wins and three losses and bumped the side up to second place. Two points separate the side from leaders Suncity Braves.
For UENR and Sunyani Poly, the story line differs completely as both sides occupy spots in the lower half of the standings. However, UENR has fared better in the season than Sunyani as the latest results despite suffering a 25-29 loss to West Siders.
Sunyani Polytechnic has simply been woeful as the side has won just a game in seven and only a superior goal difference separates the side from bottom ranked LIR Royals. All three teams are set to feature in the 2017 UPAC (Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics) Basketball Championship. UENR won the 2016 edition in the zone.
