Coach of recently crowned Ashanti Regional Basketball Champions Kumasi Girls Senior High School, Zibo Brown has pointed out measures that ensured his side made history by registering its first ever regional championship title.
The side beat T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School (AMASS) 9-3 in the Championship Final game to annex the trophy after suffering a loss against the same side in last season’s final. Speaking to Basketballghana.com, Brown elaborated on reasons for his side’s jump. He said:
“We came 4th (at 2016 Sprite Ball), that was something I didn’t like so I decided to train my girls very well and taught them many different things we did not have the opportunity to learn last year because it was our first time and the time for us to train was very limited…we have a half court in our school to train”.
The measures have paid dividends thus far as the side beat the three time regional and two time national champion AMASS to win this year’s edition. By placing first in the competition, Kumasi Girls will represent the region with AMASS in the girl’s division.
Winners Opoku Ware School and runner up Prempeh College will do same in the boys division. Prempeh lost 26-27 in the final game.
