sam_1792Kumasi Girls High School has topped its quick ascension in girl’s high school basketball in Ghana by winning the 2016 Ashanti Regional Basketball Championship with a 9-3 win over 2015 Champions T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School (AMASS) at Opoku Ware School.

The young side burst onto the scene in January this year at the main championship-Sprite Ball Championship- following a shock progress from the qualifiers to make it all the way to the final four and going on to place fourth.

By beating AMASS to claim this year’s title, Kumasi Girl’s easily puts its name in the conversation of potential winners ahead of Sprite Ball come January 2017. With a blend of athletic, supreme ball handling skills and great chemistry, the side beat Toase Senior High School 9-4 before surviving a scare to beat Kumasi Anglican Senior High School 9-6.

The side had to rally from a 2-4 deficit in the first half to clinch the win before easily handling then defending champions AMASS in the final game to gain revenge for last year’s loss. Both schools will represent the region in January.

Opoku Ware School and Prempeh College will do same in the boys division.
