Kumasi Girls High School have booked their spot in the final four of the Ashanti Regional Basketball Championship female division after producing a 9-4 win over Toase Senior High School in the final game of the first round.
The 2016 Sprite Ball fourth placed side produced a masterful performance to earn an 8-1 first half lead. However, the side wobbled a bit in the second half to allow Toase back in the game prompting Kumasi Coach Zibo Brown to call for multiple timeouts to calm his players down.
Talk on the side yielded dividends as the side halted Toase’s run to win the game.
In the boys division, Kumasi Anglican Senior High School beat Kumasi Technical Institute 10-2 to progress to the final four. The side’s progression means both male and female sides from the school are in the running to represent the region at the national championships in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
Prempeh College’s matchup against Islamic Senior High School is next.
The national championship-Sprite Ball Championship- will take place in January, 2017. Next year’s edition will be the tenth anniversary celebration of the championship since its inception in 2007.
