Opoku Ware School is in the final stages of preparations for the Ashanti Regional Basketball Championship due to take place at the school’s court later this week. The court, which has hosted prior editions of the qualifiers will be do same for this year’s qualifiers to the 2017 Sprite Ball Championship.
However, school authorities are hell bent on making this year’s qualifiers one to remember by improving the courts’ state and fixing other amenities. After several years of constant use, the court lost its appeal hence the need to fix it in time for the games.
The School will welcome a bevy of top rated highs schools in the region to compete for spots at Ghana’s biggest high school basketball championship-Sprite Ball in January next year. Prempeh College, Kumasi High School, Kumasi Anglican Senior High School among others will battle for two spots at the main competition.
Two-time Sprite Ball winners T. I. Ahmadiyya will headline the female division as it takes on a strong field that includes 2016 surprise package Kumasi Girls High School, Yaa Asantewaa Girls Senior High School and St.Louis Senior High School.
The 2017 Sprite Ball will be the tenth year for the Rite Sports organized competition.
