With the Volta Regional Sprite Ball Championship done and dusted, attention will be shifted to two of the country’s powerful regions this weekend as the qualifiers for the National event continues unabated.

The Brong Ahafo regional capital of Sunyani will make their debut appearance in the most prestigious basketball competition amongst the youth in the West African country as mushrooming await anxiously to unleash their talent on Friday October 29.

The Sunyani Senior High School will be the venue for what is expected to be a keenly contested game for the sixteen teams that have confirmed their participation for the one-day championship.

Obviously the participating schools in the region will be keen to impress since this is going to be their first appearance in the competition.

Twene Amanfo Technical, St James Seminary, Berekum Presby Senior High, Dormaa Senior High, Wenchi and Techiman senior high among others are some of the schools that are expected to participate in the championship on Friday.

The winners and first runners up of both the male and female divisions will represent the region in the grand finale in December 22-23rd, 2010 at the El-Wak stadium.

After the competition is concluded in the region, the train will quickly move to neighbouring Ashanti region where over fifteen schools will vie for honours in their second appearance in the competition.

Kumasi Technical School will be eager to defend the trophy they won last year in the boys division while highly unpretentious Supreme Toase who defied all odds to win the competition will also be keen to take another shot at the title in 2010.

Home support could only help Opoku Ware secure a third spot last year and therefore will be keen to go at least a step further this time around.

Powerhouses Prempeh College, Kumasi High School, Osei Kyewerekyie, Yaa Asantewaa Senior High, St Louis amongst others will be present on Saturday to make a strong case for themselves.

Already Keta and Mawuli Senior high have booked their ticket in the grand finale alongside Awudome and Kadjebi-Asato to represent the Volta region.

Expectations have reached an epoch stage and the high number of schools that have shown interest in the one day tournament bears enough testimony of the desire and the enthusiasm that has gripped the Brong Ahafo and Ashanti Regions ahead of the Sprite Ball Championship this weekend.

So the battle line has been drawn and the culturally rich regions will take the centre stage as schools compete for the four available slots for the grand finale in December at the El –Wak Stadium.
