Tema Community Basketball League finalists and rivals Ashaiman Lions and Nungua Coldstore played out an exciting game that had Coldstore beat Lions 69-59 to emerge champions of the league’s maiden season.

Speaking to Ghana’s leading hoops portal Basketballghana.com, Forwards Kwame Boamah Djan and Carl Kuzagbe of Nungua and Ashaiman respectively shared admiration for either teams’ game despite the intense rivalry that exist between the sides.

Djan, who was declared Most Valuable Player of the League, said, “ We fought hard but Ashaiman, I don’t know they are something else coming back…its rare but in Ghana basketball, it’s so rare, I tipoff my hat for them. Ashaiman did very very well with the likes of Elvis (Pobi-Siaw) and Carl (Kuzagbe) and Mosquito (John Teye Okumoh)”.

On his part, Kuzagbe, who was named Defensive Player in the league said, “They are technically good, I give it to them. They are good; you can see that they are a good team. I feel that they played good; they are a very good team. I give them all the credit”.

Trailing Coldstore by an 18 point difference at half time (19-37) Lions almost completed the comeback by going on an 11-0 run to close down Nungua’s lead to just a point midway through the third quarter. Nungua recovered in time to see the game out and clinch the title.
