LIR Royals’ plans to surge up the Global Sporting Platforms (GSP) Basketball League standings in the wake of an encouraging 30-29 win over Sunyani Polytechnic, has fallen flat as the side lost 20-49 to University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in the latest round of games.
Week Five of the Sunyani-based hoops league had a top of the table clash between defending champions Suncity Braves and Barracks Scorpions dominate the headlines, Royals matchup with UENR represented a huge turning point in the season for the side.
Braves beat Scorpions 45-30 to maintain its lead on top of the standings. The former was billed to play Catholic University College, Ghana (CUCG) Saints but a late decision meant a change in schedule.
A win for LIR however, would have been the side’s first set of back to back victories in the season and catalyst to spring itself from the bottom where it finds itself.
Unfortunately for the side, UENR’s season has been rekindled after the exciting side got off to a horrid run-including not showing up for the season’s opening game against Braves- to begin the season and played as such to earn the win.
In other games, West Siders beat Sunyani Polytechnic 26-23 and Desert Rabbits lost 29-44 to CUCG Saints.
