Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation Ashanti Regional Chairman Osei Mensah is lamenting the extreme hardships the team experienced during its trip to Nigeria to compete at the fifth edition of the Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei International Wheelchair Basketball Tournament.

Ghana’s male contingent placed third with the female side placing fourth in the competition.
Speaking on Kumasi-based radio station Ashh FM, Mensah, a member of Ghana’s contingent at the tournament, stated the team went through hell representing Ghana. He said:

“It was not easy…on the road we encounter hardships from the borders of Togo, Benin, Nigeria and even entering the host nation Nigeria wasn’t easy. This is our third time and for the past three years we have been representing Ghana”.

“The Nigerians were using current and proper wheelchair, ours were outmoded but we were determined and managed to place third”.

His statement mirrors those made by Media Coordinator of the Federation Sandy Asiedu who stated in an interview with Basketballghana.com, the team received no sponsorship from the state.

Nigeria won the competition which featured representatives from West African countries including Togo and Benin.
