Mfantsipim School has beaten reigning Sprite Ball Champions St. Augustine’s College 40-23 at the annual Inter Schools Basketball competition in Ghana’s Central regional capital, Cape-Coast.

The two, who hold arguably the biggest rivalry in the West African country, played out an entertaining game that had Mfantsipim dominate from start to finish.

Mfantsipim went into the game needing a major statement for its bitter counterpart following the 37-23 shellacking it took to miss out on a fifth Sprite Ball title earlier this year. And they did exactly that as the boys in red bossed around guys from the green camp on its way to an overwhelming win.

St. Augustine’s sorely missed the services of Power Forward and 2016 High School Male Player of the Year Dennis Dugbennu and Point Guard Raymond Affram who graduated after leading the team to win the school’s first ever national title in January.

The win comes as qualifiers for Sprite Ball’s tenth edition have tipped off in some regions including Greater Accra. Sprite Ball’s 2017 event is set to commence in January, 2017.
