Ghana’s Male Wheelchair Basketball team has won bronze at the annual Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei Basketball Championship in Nigeria at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos. The country’s female side fell a place short of a place on the podium as the side finished fourth in the female division.
The team made it out of a tough field to clinch third place in the annual competition which had representatives from West African countries compete in the five day tournament. Coach Elvis Alipui led Ghana’s male team to the final four before missing out on a finals spot.
Speaking to Basketballghana.com, Media Coordinator of Ghana’s Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Sandy Asiedu, was impressed with output of both sides considering several challenges the team faced in the lead up to the tournament.
Basketballghana.com can confirm the team received no support from government and had to rely on contributions from individuals and organizations to make the trip.
Nigeria’s Oyo State Team emerged champions in the male division. Countries from the sub-region including Togo, Ghana and Benin competed in the championship.
