Ghana’s two representatives in the FIBA Zone Three African Championship, Braves of Customs and Tema Youth, have missed out on competing in the championship after failing to confirm their participation in the lead up to the tournament.
Tema Youth announced its withdrawal mere minutes after losing 52-67 to Braves in the Accra Basketball League Men’s Division I final game citing financial challenges. However, Braves looked set to make the journey to Togo’s capital, Lome to represent the nation.
But investigations by Basketballghana.com confirmed speculations surrounding Braves intended trip as word finally broke the side will not be able to make an appearance in the Togolese capital. Reasons for the team’s absence are yet to be known as several attempts to contact officials have proved futile.
The news comes as a major disappointment for the side and Ghana Basketball as the nation strives to make a mark on the international terrain. Braves Female side-who won the female division in the league-, will miss out on the competition due to reasons yet to be known.
The Zone Three Championship will started on October 21 and run till October 30 where clubs from West African countries will compete for slots in the main championship.
