Following the conclusion of the just ended Accra Basketball League Men’s Division I the top four spots have been secured by league champions Braves of Customs, Tema Youth, Fire Service and Reformers of Prisons in orderly fashion.
However, the campaign’s somewhat mish mash, chaotic decision making, left the remaining spots in the standings unattended to officially. Due to a combination of referees failing to turn up for games and rain that dogged the campaign for long periods, classification matchups involving Tudu Magic, Teshie Rangers, DC Dynamics and Ghana Navy were called off.
The games were cancelled to save “resources” and because they did not have any impact on the semis according to one official who did not want his identity revealed. As such, classifying the teams would be done based on points differences recorded in first round games.
That means Teshie Rangers would place eighth, Magic seventh, Dynamics sixth and Navy fifth based on results postseason first round.
Rangers lost to eventual champions Braves by 17 points (44-61) with Magic losing by six to Reformers (52-58) and Dynamics losing by three to runners up Tema Youth (42-45).
Navy lost the final game of the round by two points to Fire Service (57-59) making them the best team outside the top four. Braves will represent Ghana at the FIBA Zone Three Africa Championship.
