Tema Youth will square off against Braves of Customs for the 2016 Accra Basketball League Men’s Division I title later today at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu, Accra in a repeat of last season’s finals which Braves won.
The game, which tips off at 17:00 GMT after Fire Service and Reformers of Prisons battle for third and fourth places respectively, will be one for Tema to “make amends” according to team coach Emmanuel “Rubberman” Quaye.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Basketballghana.com ahead of the titanic clash, Quaye was adamant his side will beat the defending champions and win the league title. He said:
“We are going to beat them. We will win, we were loose against them but this time we will make amends”.
Tema lost last season’s title to Braves and lost 65-75 in the regular season to the side despite leading through three quarters of the game. The loss was one of two suffered by Youth in the regular season before beating DC Dynamics and Fire Service 57-52 and 64-59 respectively in the postseason.
Braves on the other hand, are yet to be beaten after winning nine regular season games and accounting for Teshie Rangers and Reformers of Prisons 66-41 and 75-55 respectively prior to today’s game.
Both sides are expected in Togo’s capital Lome for the FIBA Zone Three Africa Championship set to commence on October 21.
