Ghana’s representatives at the FIBA Zone Three Africa Championship, Braves of Customs and Tema Youth, will play in the 2016 Accra Basketball League Men’s Division I final game after both sides secured wins in the semifinal of the playoffs.
Both sides are expected in Togo’s capital Lome for the tournament which runs between October 21 and October 30 for spots in the Africa Club Championship. Representatives of West African countries including Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Mali and Ivory Coast will compete.
Braves beat Reformers of Prisons 75-55 before Tema Youth piped Fire Service to a 64-59 win to setup a rematch of last season’s league title game which Braves won. The final game will take place on Saturday October 15 at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu, Accra after Fire and Reformers battle for third place.
Braves capitalized on Reformers shorthanded roster which had Point Guard Andrews Ayienab and Center Aziz Mohammed foul out, to dominate the final quarter. Its dominance stretched Braves seven point third quarter lead (55-48) to finish the game with a 20 point lead.
Tema won its tie against Fire in similar fashion as a strong defensive showing in the fourth quarter earned Tema three quick steals to register a six point run that effectively sealed the win for the side.
