Bad news for the New Orleans Pelicans: another one of their players is dealing with an injury, and it’s their best one. Anthony Davis suffered a Grade 2 ankle sprain and is expected to be sidelined for 10-15 days, according to The Undefeated’s Marc Spears.
Davis suffered their injury during the Pelicans’ exhibition game against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday in Beijing — Davis played just seven minutes and New Orleans lost the meaningless contest 116-104.
“At this stage, and what has happened injury-wise, I just look and play who’s there and who’s available,” Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said, via ESPN’s Justin Verrier. “I will say this, though: It’s very frustrating. It’s very frustrating in that we can’t seem to get a rhythm or we can’t seem to put the team together because there’s always someone missing.”
Gentry has been dealing with a shorthanded squad since he took over the team last year, and New Orleans’ injury issues predate his arrival. He’s not the only one frustrated with this — it’s everybody around the organization.
The good news: Losing Davis for a couple of weeks isn’t the end of the world. That timetable means he could be ready for the Pelicans’ season opener against the Denver Nuggets on Oct. 26.
