Fire Service has one upped fierce rivals Ghana Navy with a narrow 59-57 win in the ongoing 2016 Accra Basketball League Men’s Division I postseason at the Lebanon House in Tudu, Accra.
The game which was originally scheduled to take place on October 6 but had to called off due to the absence of referees, lived up to everything it promised as both sides went at each other with little hesitation.
Much of the first half had a lot to offer on hustle, aggression but very little in quality play as Navy grabbed a 31-30 lead heading into the second half of the game.
Indeed, the remaining quarters produced excellent play from the buffet of talented players on the respective rosters chief among them Fire Service Guard Gilbert Wood whose three makes beyond the arc was the main catalyst behind the spark.
However, an 11-4 scoring from Navy had the side back in the mix of things later in the quarter with Shooting Guard Brew Smith nailing a three point shot and Point Guard Joe Ayieattah starring with a crisp pass that led to a basket.
David Asingar blocked a shot but Joseph Boye converted a layup off a beautiful feed from Kingsley Quist to give Fire a 48-47 lead heading into the final quarter. Two straight three point shots from Daniel Amartey turned out to be the deciding factor in the tie as Navy failed to beat the time and lead.
Fire is set to face Tema Youth in the next round but Navy will play DC Dynamics later today at 17:00 GMT.
