Teshie Rangers Coach Wisdom Etsorgali has commended organizers of the Peace Hoops 2016 Basketball Tournament after the five day program ended over the weekend at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu with Asylum Down and Ridge emerging champions of the maiden edition of the tournament.
Rangers placed fourth in the competition after losing 30-32 to Junior Reformers from Osu.
The competition, created to promote peace awareness ahead of Ghana’s national and parliamentary elections, had communities from Ghana’s capital, Accra including Nima, Osu and Tema participate.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Basketballghana.com, Etsorgali expressed satisfaction with the way things panned out in the competition despite his side’ failure to clinch the ultimate prize. He said:
“First of all kudos to organizers of the competition…Ghana is our only beloved country and this is the only place like home and for us to participate in an initiative like this it makes us feel part of the initiative and part of the stance of one Ghana, one people. For us it’s brilliant”.
Edwin Appiah of Ridge was named Most Valuable Player of the Tournament after a string of stellar play in the competition. Novas from Nima won the under 12 competition.
Bank roller of the event, National Democratic Congress Candidate for Klottey-Korle Constituency, Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, was present at the event where she urged Ghanaians to be ambassadors of peace.
