Kofi “Melo”Agyei of Nungua Coldstore has been named Most Valuable Player of the Basketball Battle Tournament which took place at the Tema Community 4 Basketball Court.
Agyei was named as the best player of the two day tournament’s best player after dominating on both ends of the court in the official curtain raiser for the Tema Community Basketball League playoffs.
His infectious play consisted of an eye catching sequence where he drained a corner three point shot and scored a layup after a beautiful drive to the basket against Community 4 in the preliminary round.
His final points in the tie-another three point shot- ended the tie with Nungua winning 38-33.
In the final game against Ashaiman Lions, Agyei with Kwame Boamah Djan and Enoch Borsah were influential in Coldstore’ dominance on the boards leading to second chance scoring opportunities for the side.
He ended the tie again but this time with a powerful dunk over Phillip Amalor to seal a 47-37 win.
Dignitaries including New Patriotic Party Candidate for Tema Central Constituency Kofi Brako and veteran Coach Emmanuel Essel Worbil graced the occasion which attracted hoards of fans to the court.
All seven teams that competed in the just ended Tema Community Basketball League regular season and Ghana Police Basketball Team participated in the two day tournament. Flashlights of Tema New Town beat home side Community 4 27-20 to place third in the competition.
