Asylum Down and Ridge has emerged winners of the Peace Hoops 2016 Basketball Tournament by beating home side Galaxy from Tudu 41-28 at the Lebanon House Court on the final day of competition.
The tournament which began on September 26 had tournament creator Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings and other dignitaries including Ghana Basketball Association Chairman David Addo Ashong and basketball pundit Yaw Sakyi Afari grace the event which didn’t disappoint.
Both teams had met earlier in the preliminary round which Galaxy won but Ridge perfectly executed their game plan of beating Galaxy with a mix of inside-outside combinations.
On the perimeter, the likes of Edwin Appiah, Sena Amekudi and Cedric Kore converted three point attempts in bunches. After getting fouled on drives, the side proved to be equally deadly from the free throw line.
Aside a quick six point showing from Bajigah Hassan, Ridge controlled much of the game silencing the partisan crowd and would go on to win the tourney.
A rematch between Junior Reformers from Osu and Teshie Rangers took place prior to the final game where Reformers dished out a 32-30 win to make it two wins over the Teshie side after beating them at the preliminary stage and seal third place.
For his brilliant efforts, Edwin Appiah from Ridge was adjudged Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. Novas from Nima was rewarded for emerging winners of the under 12 competition.
