Peace Hoops 2016 Basketball Tournament Most Valuable Player Edwin “Kontor” Appiah has stated he did not have a hard time earning the top award after being declared the best player of a competition which was created to promote peace awareness ahead of Ghana’s elections in December.
He made the statement in an exclusive interview with Basketballghana.com after his side, Ridge, beat home side Galaxy from Tudu 41-28 to win the maiden edition of the competition which was sponsored by National Democratic Congress Candidate for the Klottey Korle Constituency, Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings.
“We’ve been training so hard I thank God for this victory and I want to thank everybody for coming to watch and I dedicate this (award) to Coach Mike Davies…it wasn’t really hard (winning the award) in anyway… we were mentally tough, we came to play; that actually got us far” he said.
Appiah was dominant in the final match of the competition which began on September 26 by logging multiple conversions from beyond the three point arc. He was ruthless as well from the free throw line to hand the game’s control to his side leaving Galaxy frustrated in the process.
Junior Reformers from Osu won the third game over Teshie Rangers beating the latter 32-30.
