The maiden edition of Peace Hoops- a basketball tournament created to promote peace awareness- has seen another day of basketball cut short by intermittent rain that has disrupted proceedings thus far. The tournament featuring eight teams from communities in Ghana’s capital, Accra including Ridge, Tema, Osu and Dansoman tipped off on Monday September 26 and will run to October 1.
On Day 2, Teshie Rangers delivered a knock out performance to obliterate Novas from Nima in the opening game of the day to win 58-35. The game which for most parts lacked quality turned out to be a lively affair with both sides producing eye catching moves in the latter stages of the fourth quarter.
The wire to wire end to the game had Rangers profit from top execution beyond the arc as Novas poor defensive showing on the perimeter gave Teshie wide open looks to convert.
CYO from Adabraka and Galaxy from Tudu, competed in the final game as DC Dynamics from Dansoman failed to turn up for their tie against Junior Reformers from Osu. The game was scheduled to be the first outing for both teams in the tourney.
Despite winning 59-42 in the first game against Tema Youth, Galaxy failed to produce the goods this time around against a CYO side that had its game against Ridge called off due to rain on the first day of action.
Intensity and overall good play did not lack in the game but putting the ball through the hoop did and was the main reason behind the low scoring game. As at the time referees called off the game due to the rain induced slippery surface, CYO was leading 6-4.
