The first edition of Peace Hoops Basketball Tournament has tipped off at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu, Accra with Galaxy beating Tema Youth 59-42 in the opening game.
Dubbed Peace Hoops 2016, the program will to September 30 and have all eight teams competing play with the aim of promoting peace in the communities ahead of Ghana’s national and parliamentary elections.
Galaxy controlled the game for long stretches and should have won with a much bigger lead as the side turned the ball over less and dominated the boards for second chance scoring opportunities. Point Guard Raymond Affram once again confirmed his position as one of Ghana’s top rated Point Guards with a flurry of deft touches and impressive shooting range from deep.
However, Tema Youth would lament turning over the ball on many occasions with Magic going on to benefit from the giveaways.
The second game of the day between Ridge and CYO had to be called off due to persistent rain; Ridge was leading 34-29 with little over seven minutes left to play. Junior Reformers of Prisons and DC Dynamics game had to be subsequently postponed.
Later today, Novas from Nima will debut in the tourney as they take on Teshie Rangers at 16:00 GMT in the opening game. Galaxy will play CYO before Ridge and Tema Youth round up the games for the second day of competition.
Peace Hoops 2016 is solely bankrolled by National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament aspirant for the Korle-Klottey Constituency, Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings.
