Howard was visiting China on a promotional tour for his shoe sponsor, Peak, according to the report.
Howard has long been a big figure in China, going back to his days with the Magic, and actually starred in a science fiction film there with Carmelo Anthony. The Hawks are set to open training camp in two weeks in Atlanta, but Howard should be fine and ready to go if indeed it is dehydration.
Still, not a great start to his time with the Hawks, who signed him to a massive three-year, $70.5 million deal this summer as Al Horford departed for Boston. The Hawks tip off the 2016-17 season on Oct. 27 against the Washington Wizards.
