Ghana’s Basketball Association (GBBA) is set to be served with a formal notice on the recent attitude of referees toward games in the Accra Basketball League according to league representative Kofi Amanyor.
The Greater Accra Basketball Association organized league has been witness to games being called off for two consecutive weeks due to referees refusal to do so including last round’s tie between Teshie Rangers and Braves of Customs.
In the opening game of the round which was duly officiated, Fire Service stunned home side Tudu Magic to record a 64-55 win.
Refusing to speak on record to Basketballghana.com regarding the thorny issue, Amanyor did however state on record he will be taking the matter up with the GBBA specifically Association Vice President Iddi Agambire.
Asked whether referees refusal to call games was down to monetary reasons, he was adamant the league owed the referees but the amount involved wasn’t substantial for them to act like that.
After completing respective seasons for the Women’s Division and Men’s Division II, Men’s Division I games are well behind schedule and in danger of missing out on the scheduled completion date in October.
In the previous round, Braves of Customs game against Fire Service was called off in similar fashion to the angst of fans gathered at the court.
