A select side from Ghana’s Western regional capital Takoradi, caused a huge upset in the opening game of the After7 Cowbell Basketball Tournament by beating Ghana Police Male Basketball Team 25-23.

The game which was originally scheduled to take place at the University of Cape-Coast was played at the brand new Cape-Coast Stadium.

Despite being the better side for the first half translating into a 12-3 lead, the Takoradi side’s patient play was ruffled in the second half by the veteran Police side who began to dictate the game’s pace and tied the score at 20 in the final quarter.

Fielding an experienced side with former tertiary stars Benjamin Debrah and Emmanuel Dickson formerly of University of Education-Winneba and Accra Polytechnic respectively, the duo were the main catalysts for Police’ improved play in getting the side into contention.

Consecutive three point shots from Dickson and one from Debrah got the deficit to two points before both guys combined on an alley oop layup to tie the score. However, Takoradi capitalized on chances from the charity stripe to see the game out .

Four more game will be played on the first day of competition in the annual basketball tournament organized by After7 Basketball Club in association with Promasidor Ghana Limited-producers of leading Ghanaian dairy product, Cowbell.
