Ghana Navy inflicted a 36-25 loss on Reformers of Prisons in the first game in the female division at the ongoing 2016 After7 Cowbell Basketball Tournament at the brand new Cape-Coast Sports Stadium in Ghana’s Central regional capital.
The new look Navy side which had representatives from Air Force join the roster, looked a much deeper side through all four quarters of the game with Reformers failing to shout out its opponents.
The third quarter ended with Navy holding a 30-18 lead but the quarter’s start was far from ideal as Reformers Eva Alhassan’s size proved too much for Navy to deal with as she scored a jumper, started a fast break which ended in a made basket and contested rebounds aggressively.
2016 Ghana Basketball Awards High School Female Most Valuable Player of the Year chipped in with a tremendous block.
Navy Guards Maria Mensah, Memuna Mumuni and Annabel Dsane kept the ball humming around Reformers baskets and nailed shots when they found openings in the defense. Reformers failed to reduce the 11 point third quarter deficit only to fall by 12 at the end of proceedings.
The tourney is taking place as activities in the Fetu Afahy3 hit fever pitch.
