The just ended Giants of Africa program in Ghana has been a blessing according to 2016 High School Most Valuable Male Player of the Year Dennis Dugbenu who participated in the two day basketball camp at the Lincoln Community School in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

The program, which was founded in 2003 by Toronto Raptors General Manager Masai Ujiri to develop basketball talents and shape the lives of young individuals in Africa, was honored at the recently held 2016 Ghana Basketball Awards with a Meritorious Award for African Development.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Baskteballghana.com, Dugbenu stated he and his peers have benefitted from the extensive training sessions with former players and coaches. He said:

“I wasn’t good in moving the ball in different directions but I learnt a lot from that, I was moving to both directions and its good especially the left”.

“I am happy and am glad. Perseverance conquers all. I thank my fans who voted for me, my family, everyone” he said when asked about his win at the Awards.

Dennis led St. Augustine’s College to its maiden national title by registering 26 points and 16 rebounds in beating Mfantsipim School 37-22 at the 2016 Sprite Ball Championship. His outstanding talent earned him Most Valuable Player of the Tournament prize.
