St. Augustine’s College Power Forward Dennis Dugbenu has been crowned High School Male Player of the Year. The crowning moment took place at the 2016 Ghana Basketball Awards at the Best Western Premier Hotel held in Accra on Friday.
Dugbenu, who goes by the moniker “Mants3” meaning King, won the award ahead of Emmanuel Agyapong of Opoku Ware School and Kofi Aboagye Acheampong of Mfantsipim School.
The strong and versatile Forward since he can play Center, was unstoppable as he and Point Guard Raymond Affram willed Augustine’s to its first ever Sprite Ball Championship title by beating arch rivals Mfantsipim 37-22 in the final game.
He cemented his reputation as the best player of the tournament by registering 26 points and 16 rebounds in humbling Mfantsipim; he was voted Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
He received a plaque and an undisclosed amount of cash as his prize before Ghana Weightlifters Association Chairman Ben Nunoo-Mensah and media mogul Nathaniel Attoh, both past students of St. Augustine’s, who were at the event.
To cap of a wonderful night for Ghana’s first Catholic High School as it got named High School Team of the Year and Lawrence Ampiah won the Coach of the Year Award.
Winners of the Rite Sports Limited event were voted by the public, some members of the media, the selection committee and an electoral college that comprised of coaches and captains of teams.
