DC Dynamics emerged victors in the Accra Basketball League Men’s Division I game against Air Force at the Prisons Court in Cantonments by beating them 48-42. The result all but seals Dynamics stay in the division after gaining promotion to the elite division this season.
Conversely, the game was overshadowed by external factors including the 2016 Ghana Basketball Awards which took place just hours after the game concluded.
The aforementioned factor was the reason behind Braves of Customs matchup with Teshie Rangers getting postponed. Braves, who are defending champions and lead the division, had three players and Coach Brimah Lawal nominated for the Awards.
Suleman Abubakar was voted Most Valuable Male Player of the Year and two time winner Lawal Brimah lost out on the Coach of the Year title to Meme Falconer. However, Dynamics game was scheduled to be preceded by Reformers and Fire Service matchup but the game was called off due to insufficient referees at the venue.
Basketballghana.com can confirm there were three referees present for the game and that made it impossible for them to officiate two straight games. Referees SamuelBadu, Eric Ankamah and Gasu Quarmyne were present at the Awards where Quarmyne was adjudged Referee of the Year.
In spite of the circumstances, Dynamics fought gallantly to earn the win and ensure team Coach Feranmi Olulonyo’s pregame prediction was proven right.
