The 2016 Ghana Basketball Awards made a huge splash on Friday at the Best Western Premier Hotel as Suleman Abubakar and Matilda Gordon were declared Most Valuable Male and Female Players of the Year respectively.
The event which was well attended, had Abubakar, who goes by the moniker “Big Time”, win the most coveted prize alongside her Braves of Customs and Accra Polytechnic counterparts, Matilda Gordon.
Gordon also emerged winner of the Tertiary Female Player of the Year ahead of Yayra Kluiboto of University of Cape-Coast and Osseni Mahmoudath of Valley View University. University of Ghana (UG) Power Forward Maxwell Mod piped Abubakar to the Tertiary Male Player of the Year title.
It turned out to be a massive winning night for UG as the institution’s Male Basketball Team won the Team of the Year, GUSA (Ghana Universities Sports Association) Team of the Year and UPAC (Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges) Team of the Year. Meme Falconer won Coach of the Year.
In the High School Division, St. Augustine’s College duo of Dennis Dugbenu and Lawrence Ampiah won the Male Player of the Year and Coach of the Year respectively. Aggrey Memorial’s Juliana Cudjoe won in the girl’s category.
Comedian DKB and singer eShun of X Factor Nigeria fame thrilled guests with knock out performances.
