The relationship between Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook will never be the same. Especially since, Durant reportedly never actually told Westbrook that he was going to sign with the Golden State Warriors. Westbrook was reportedly “angry and hurt” by Durant’s non-communication and now there seems to be an uneasy distance between the two.
Their relationship has deteriorated to the point that Durant isn’t planning on reaching out to Westbrook, after he signed a contract extension with the Thunder. For Durant, anything with Westbrook right now, in his words, is “touchy.”
“Nah, that’s a touchy deal. It’s easy for someone else to tell me what I should do.” Durant told reporters in Rio on Thursday. “But I’ll see when this is over and when everything dies down. At some point, we’ll sit down and talk. But I don’t know when.”
Westbrook’s contract extension is of course a touchy subject for Durant, because his departure likely made it happen. But it is important to note that Durant is not closing the door on Westbrook forever as he does say that he will talk with his former teammate after everything “dies down.”
Which may be the right strategy for Durant to take because after all, time heals all wounds.
