Hoop for Christ, a U.S. based Christian organization is undertaking a week long program at the Kumasi Polytechnic to develop basketball skills among young individual in Kumasi.
The program, operating under the theme “Teaching basketball skills with a message of Hope”, takes young people in Ghana’s Ashanti regional capital through several basketball drills to enhance their fundamental skills and understanding of the game. In all 120 children will benefit from the program.
Basketball is on the rise in the West African nation and a developmental project targeting young athletes like this is a key venture in producing talented fundamentally sound players in the near future.
2016 Coach of the Year nominee James Okine lauded the idea by stating “This is all we need for our kids. Kudos to the organizers”. Okine, who is a big advocate for youth development and heads Eagles Academy, has been nominated in the upcoming event alongside Meme Falconer of the University of Ghana and Adenta Leopards and Lawal Brimah of of Accra Polytechnic and Braves of Customs .
The annual event will take place at the Best Western Premier Hotel in Accra on August 12.
