The growing list of postponed games in the Accra Basketball League Men’s Division I are yet to be rescheduled and honored on a new date. The games which were moved from their original days to a new date due to myriad reasons have not been given a new date for teams to compete.
Earlier in the season, heavy rains inundated much of Ghana forcing the league board to cancel games for two consecutive rounds. In recent times, games have been called off due to poor visibility on the court.
Over the weekend, Tudu Magic’s game against defending champions and league leaders Braves of Customs was called off by referees who per reports gathered by Baskteballghana.com, had difficulty tracking the game due to poor lighting at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu.
The week prior to last weekend’s round of games also had Fire Service game against Magic called off for the same reason at the same location. It must be noted games at the league’s other venue, Prisons Court in Cantonments, has had no problems honoring late games.
Magic Coach and 2016 Ghana Basketball Awards nominee James Okine is reportedly upset with happenings in the league that has cost his side momentum. Magic and Fire Service have played four games respectively but leaders Tema Youth has played four more games in the season.
Okine has been nominated as Coach of the Year alongside Lawal Brimah and Meme Falconer. The annual event takes place at the best Western Premier Hotel on August 12 in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
