Galaxy ended Reformers of Prisons winning run by beating the latter side 32-31 in the Accra Basketball League games in the Women’s Division. League leaders Braves of Customs earned a comfortable 47-33 win over Fire Service.

Reformers trailed 8-11 in the first quarter on the back off Galaxy Guard Karine Quarnum’s three point shot and Selina Quaye and Naa Shika Moffat’s blocked shots. The latter was found in acres of space in the paint by Quarnum for a wide open layup.

The introduction of Nelly Laryea in the second quarter, brought much energy and grit to Reformers and grabbing a huge offensive rebounds and converting resulting free throws demonstrated that much. However, Galaxy still held on to the game’s lead at the end of the first half.

Galaxy went on a great run in the opening parts of the second half with Ayishatu Malike recording multiple blocks as Guards Quarnum and Joana Amannel converted three point shots respectively.

Reformers Guards Promise Ofori and Elizabeth Atebkah gave Reformers the game’s lead (27-26) for the first time with a three pointer from Atebkah and two drives from Ofori.

Augustina Amuzu’s jumper pulled Reformers within two after Quaye and Moffat scored for Galaxy to put them 32 -30 ahead with 30 seconds left.

Center Eva Alhassan then converted one of two free throws to hand Galaxy the win despite losing Center Harriet Hayford in the second quarter.
