Ghana Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye remains confident his ministry will develop sports in totality by providing more sports facilities to accelerate the development of talents in the country.
He made the statement during University of Ghana’s press conference held today at the institution’s Sports Directorate to acknowledge the tremendous performance of the institution particularly its Male Basketball Team at the recent All Africa University Games in South Africa.
Speaking at the event he said, “I don’t think it is right to discriminate against other sports. All Sports Associations deserve equal attention…I want a total development of Ghana Sports.”
The Minister also shared plans by his ministry to build multipurpose indoor facilities in every district in Ghana as part of a medium term goal. He later commended his alma mater’s contingent to the African Games for the wonderful achievement.
The press conference was attended by the University’s Director of Sports Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, Ghana Basketball Association Chairman David Addo Ashong and Assistant Registrar Regina Afari.
University of Ghana’s Male Basketball Team made history by winning the African title on the back of an undefeated run this year which has seen the team win GUSA (Ghana Universities Sports Association) and UPAC (Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges) basketball championships respectively.
Ghana’s premier University won medals in multiple disciplines including table tennis, tennis and volley ball.
