Celebrating excellence in basketball, the 2016 Ghana Basketball Awards has been officially launched. The annual award ceremony will take place at the Best Western Premier Hotel on August 12 in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

Chief Executive Officer of Rite Sports Limited-event organizers- Yaw Sakyi Afari who launched the must watch event with Pundits Patrick Akoto and Feranmi Olulonyo, expressed his utmost delight in this year’s ceremony where nominees will be voted by a combination of the public, select media personnel and electoral college.

The electoral college will have coaches and captains of institutions vote for shortlisted nominees who competed in top basketball events in the country including Sprite Ball, PUSAG (Private Universities Sports Association) and GHAPSA (Ghana Polytechnics Sports Association) Basketball Championships respectively.

Hashim-Brimah

Headlining a strong list of nominees in many categories is the Most Valuable Player-MVP- of the Year (Male) which fields a rich cast of Maxwell Mod, Hashim Brimah, 2015 winner Abdul Mutaleeb Alhassan and Suleman Abubakar.

The Female MVP category has Selina Quaye, Matilda Gordon, Berlinda Boateng and Carlyn Adjei.

Dennis Dugbennu of St. Augustine’s College, Kofi Aboagye Acheampong of Mfantsipim and Kofi Aboagye of Opoku Ware School have been shortlisted for High School Male Player of the Year.
