The Ghana Wheel Chair Basketball Federation is likely to be represented at the African Paralympic Games by Coach Ernest Alupui (middle) due to insufficient funds according to Media Coordinator Sandy Asiedu.
The federation has over the past week been pleading to Ghana’s Sports Ministry, corporate organizations and individuals to provide money to fund the important trip to North Africa.
A three man entourage was expected to be ready to leave the country on Saturday. However, Asiedu opined the federation as at the time of contact by Basketballghana.com was yet to receive any money for the trip.
He later divulged the federation would fund Coach Alupui should there be no support available.
The trip to Morocco is a necessary venture for the Ghana federation since failing to show up would result in sanctions. Player classification, referee and coaching courses will be undertaken by participants during the conference.
Ghana’s National team failed to qualify for the African Paralympics which commences on Sunday July 10. By failing to qualify, the team automatically misses out on a place in the 2016 Rio Paralympics which takes place in September.
