Navy will be in the hunt for its first win of the 2016 season later this afternoon at the Prisons Court in Cantonments, Accra when the side takes on Galaxy in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women’s Division.
The round of games will have defending champions Braves of Customs take on Air Force with both teams yet to lose in three games played in the season.
Despite having a side capable of contending for a title, Navy has failed to live up to its potential with a series of middling losses that have rendered the team winless in the league. The losses have culminated in the team’s position near the base of the standings rearing just ahead of Fire Service on goal difference.
In Maria Mensah, Center Edem and Victoria Vuvor, Navy has good players who can turn a tide with inspired moments. However, the team’s losses have been hard to take in regardless of their good play including one to defending champions Braves.
That game was perhaps the best display by Navy as tactical switch from Coach Alexander Tindani to play one on one defense resulted in stemming Braves’ barrage of attacks. Braves’ dominant Forward and one of the best players on the local scene Matilda Gordon was thwarted by Edem who thwarted Gordon’s effort in the paint.
Navy after improving on the defensive end in their last matchup will need to show improvement on the offense.
