University of Ghana (UG) Power Forward Maxwell Mod has described meeting with San Antonio Spurs Power Forward as a “great pleasure” and “motivating experience”.
The two-time All Star and former Indiana Pacers player visited the reigning Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship winners at the tertiary institution’s court as they prepare for the Africa University Games which take place later this year.
Speaking to Basketballghana.com, Mod, who played an outstanding role in the championship win, was excited to see the 13 year veteran.
“It was a great pleasure seeing an NBA player…just seeing him close to us made us feel anything is possible. It was such a motivating experience for me and my teammates. He taught some fundamentals of basketball and after watched us play scrimmage among ourselves” he said.
Shooting Guard Emmanuel Wolff stated, “it was cool to see an actual NBA player in person”.
West is on his second trip to Ghana and has already visited Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye and US Ambassador to Ghana Robert Porter Jackson. Through his partnership with sports agency Prolific Sports, talented youth will be selected for enrollment in American colleges and high schools.
UG will represent Ghana at the Africa University Games following its win at the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games in January.
