Rising to the occasion, LeBron James was brilliant in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. With 32 points Wednesday, James not only led the Cleveland Cavaliers to victory, he made Finals history again.
After Game 1, James broke Robert Horry’s record for 3-pointers in the NBA Finals. Wednesday, James reached another milestone by passing Kobe Bryant for 10th on the all-time Finals scoring list.
Similar to James, Bryant played in seven Finals and scored a total of 937 points. James now has 945 points. LeBron has more total points in the Finals than Shaquille O’Neal (six appearances) and Tim Duncan (six appearances). Ahead of James on the list are Magic Johnson (971 points) and John Havlicek (1,018 points).
James isn’t really viewed as a big-time scorer, but he always steps it up in the Finals and with seven appearances, it is not surprising that he is now 10th on the list. Also if he keeps making it to the Finals, then James will likely keep rising on the list and could perhaps even catch Magic later on in this series. But that all depends on if the Cavs keep winning to extend the series, which after a dominant Game 3 victory could be quite possible.
