University of Ghana (UG) and Police female teams will not compete in the Women’s Division of the Accra Basketball League (ABL) following the consistent absence of both sides in the ongoing championship.
According to league administrator Benjamin Baafi, both teams were given time lines to make their debuts but failed to do so. As such the league’s board has decided to redraw Police and UG from the 2016 roster per reports gathered by Basketballghana.com. Police was scheduled to play Reformers of Prisons in the fourth round which took place on May 26.
UG was due to play Galaxy Ladies but failed to turn up for the game. Both teams’ failures to honor games forced league representatives to do away with them which leave the women division roster at six.
Police had administrative problems earlier in the season and looked to sort them out before the third round of games. However, the team couldn’t come to an agreement with the administrators and caused them to miss games.
The male team has been affected by this and will not feature in the Men’s Division II league.
Reformers and Galaxy will benefit from maximum points and wins as a result giving both sides three wins from four games played thus far. Braves beat Navy 55-30 as Air Force defeated Fire Service 42-29 in games played in Week Four.
