Navy’s chances of finishing in the top half of the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women’s Division took a massive hit following the team’s 33-50 loss to Braves of Customs in Week Four games played at Prisons Court in Cantonments, Accra.
The team headed into the game against the defending champions with just a win in three games. Its solitary win was by virtue of Police’ failure to turn up for the matchup: Police has since been redrawn from the league. On the other hand, Braves had two wins from two games in previous contests.
Navy fell 0-8 in the opening minutes of the game but fared better in the closing minutes to trail 5-13. The team’s first buckets were scored by Center Edem who gathered a huge offensive rebound after a miss to score at the top of the key.
Braves Guard Afia Agyeman scored a deep three point shot to begin the second quarter. Braves extended its’ lead on the back off stifling defense which created turnovers for the team to score on fast breaks. Come half time, Braves led 27-14.
Seeing his side lose its way in the second quarter, Navy Coach Alexander Tindani gave a passionate motivational talk to his charges. His speech and adjusted tactical tweak had Navy play well than it did earlier by guarding opposing players strongly. However, Navy couldn’t erase the deficit leaving the team fruitless despite their tremendous exertions.
