Braves of Customs and Air Force extended their unbeaten runs in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women’s Division by recording impressive wins in Week Four fixtures which took place at the Prisons Court in Cantonment, Accra.
Braves beat Navy 55-30 whereas Air Force beat Fire Service 42-29. Braves’ win gave the defending champions its’ third win in as many matches. A strong start by the defending champs set them up for a competitive game where the ladies from Customs had to go see out waves of tough one on one defense deployed by Navy.
However, the deep Braves side had enough backups to call on when starters including Matilda Gordon began wearing down from the attention on defense.
Air Force showed no signs of jitters after a lengthy layoff by dominating Fire Service en route to a resounding 42-29 win. Prior to the game, Air Force had not played since an opening day win over Navy. Fire Service lacked any sort of offense aside Point Guard Carlyn Naa Adjei who starred once again for the underwhelming side.
However, her solo efforts against a balanced Air Force side proved futile as the latter walked away with yet another win.
On the down side, University of Ghana and Police failed to show up again for a scheduled matchup. With four rounds already done, league administrator Benjamin Baafi indicated to Basketballghana.com both teams will no longer feature this season.
