Braves of Customs made it two wins from two games with a solid 37-24 win over Galaxy Ladies in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women’s division played at the Lebanon House in Tudu. Reformers of Prisons handed Navy a 43-51 loss in the earlier game of the day.
The defending champions went into the game on the back off a huge 58-30 win over Fire Service in the previous round but showed very little intensity showcased in that encounter against Galaxy in the first quarter.
The team’s jittery start culminated in Gloria Gyampoh getting into foul trouble and missing out on long stretches of the quarter. On the other hand, Galaxy’s Naa Shika Moffat dominated on the boards gobbling up rebounds to give her side an 11-6 lead.
The team’s fortunes turned with the introduction of Matilda Gordon and Gyampoh in the remaining quarters. Gordon’s superior strength and intensity coupled with her size erased Galaxy’s threat on the boards.
The duo found ways to hurt the opposing below the rim with strong post moves as Guards Grace Doe and Afia Agyeman consistently found ways to feed their bigs inside the paint. The tie was still up In the air come half time with Braves leading 20-18 but stopped being competitive as Galaxy visibly looked gassed from helping and double teaming.
Grace Doe rightly acknowledged the team’s superior level of stamina as the reason behind the win.
