Tema Youth responded to an opening day defeat in the best possible way by beating Tudu Magic 59-43 in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) at the Lebanon House in Tudu, Accra.
The team was joined in the win column by Fire Service and Air Force who recorded impressive victories over Holy Family and Teshie Rangers respectively.
Following a shock loss to Nay on the opening day of the new season, Tema made good on their impressive collection of talents by beating home side Magic in emphatic style. Nothing worked for Magic particularly on offense where shots consistently missed the mark and the defense was always a step behind Tema’s.
Tudu clearly missed spark plug Evans Anfom’s energy on the boards as Tema’s Kwame Boamah Djan won most aerial duels to give his team second scoring chances. Magic Coach James Okine was disappointed with the performance blaming his players for the loss.
The second game of the day had Fire Service take on Holy Family in what was the former’s debut game in the season. Fire’s long awaited debut yielded a win and a great start to the new campaign.
With new highly rated recruit Farahat Tamimu in the starting lineup alongside Joseph Boye and Emmanuel Amartey, the team coasted to victory on the back off strong shooting from three point range.
The team’s female side is yet to win a game but team executives can be satisfied with the performance of the male side particularly after starting out with a 7-13 deficit.
It was a sad turn of events for Teshie Rangers losing 37-39 to Air Force due to Shooting Guard Gabriel Numarworse’ failure to convert free throws with the game on the line. It was particularly disappointing for Teshie who donned brand new jerseys which were unveiled prior to the game.
Guard Bernard Tetteh considered the loss a learning process for the team who gained promotion to division I just this season.
