Galaxy Ladies Basketball Team extended its’ winning start to the Accra Basketball League (ABL) with a 28-22 win over Reformers of Prisons in the women’s division. The game, originally scheduled to take place at the Lebanon House was played at the Prisons Court in Cantonments, Accra.

The day’s games also featured defending champions Braves of CEPS beat Fire Service easily winning 58-30 in a lopsided game which produced very little quality basketball. However, the Police team failed to show up for a game for the second week in succession after the team’s game against Navy was forfeited.

The team failed to show up which resulted in a walkover victory for Galaxy; per reports gathered by Basketballghana.com, Police is facing an administrative challenge which has caused the team to miss both games. The male team has also been saddled with a similar fate.

However, Galaxy had to fight hard against a Prisons team playing before a partisan crowd in this matchup. The team got a massive boost from reserve Forward Naa Shika who scored six straight points after checking into the game in the second quarter.

Prisons backcourt duo of Promise Ofori and Elizabeth Atebrah could not find their shooting touch which proved key in their opening game win against Fire Service. Despite the shooting slump, Prisons used freebies from the free throw line to stay in the game heading into the last quarter.

Aisha Munira and Celestina Quanum were the heroines for Galaxy as they converted crucial baskets to give the team a well deserved second win of the season.

Prosper Agbleta and her charges from Reformers will be hoping for a better outcome in their next outing after seeing their winning start fall apart.
