Discipline and mental toughness was the key ingredient for Teshie Rangers to beat DC Dynamics 52-50 in the team’s opening game of the 2016 Accra Basketball League according to team captain Wisdom Etsorgali.
The win ensured Rangers enacted revenged two losses against Dynamics last season in Division II. Dynamics went on to win the division and gain promotion to the upper tier with Rangers following suit with a second place finish.
Speaking to Basketballghana.com, Etsorgali was delighted with the win but was ecstatic about the team’s approach during the game. He said:
“Player discipline and mental toughness from Rangers basketball was awesome. We came for revenge considering the fact that they beat us twice last year. Rangers team… did as instructed by the coaching staff.”
He also singled out Center Emmanuel Ocquaye for his impressive exploits in the game by grabbing crucial rebounds in the final minutes of the game.
The final game of Day One of the new season lived up to the billing as the debutants put on a good show for spectators on a Friday night. Dynamics overturned a 7-8 deficit in the first quarter to lead from the remaining quarters till the final minutes of the game.
With a minute and 21 seconds left to play, Rangers shooter Gabriel Numarworse and Emmanuel Ocquaye converted single free throws respectively to seal the win.
