A day after losing to Navy 46-51 in the Greater Accra Men’s Division I Basketball League, Tema Youth’s junior side lost 37-45 to CYO in the region’s second tier competition- the Division II on Saturday May 7 at the Lebanon House in Tudu, Accra.
The Tema-based side had difficulties breaking down a well disciplined CYO side in the first quarter; falling 10-11. The team began to raise its’ game with the likes of Simon Aphour doing great work on the boards and Moro Abdul Karim making two blocks in quick succession and completing a three point play.
Karim’s three point play would have sealed a 19-17 lead for Tema in the second half had it not been for CYO’s Michael Owusu buzzer beating three point shot.
Andre Adusei of CYO’s reintroduction in the game after finally shaking off an arm injury diffused Tema’s superior work rate which threatened to wipe out CYO’s lead. Adusei’s work rate on both ends of the court enabled his team neutralize Tema’s superiority in rebounds.
At the end of a game that failed to live up to the level in previous games played, CYO had better conversions and just enough defensive fire power to see the game through for the win.
Adenta Leopards needed overtime to beat Reformers 68-65 in the day’s other game which did live up to the pre game hype.
