Chairman of the Greater Accra Men’s Division I Basketball League Benjamin Baafi has debunked suggestions that playing more games will be a huge load for players to bear saying it will be beneficial to the players.
The Chairman made the statements on the opening day of the 2016 season which tipped off with Navy taking on Air Force in the Women’s Division. Navy lost 35-47 to Air Force in a highly entertaining game which had both teams showcase wonderful shooting skills.
In an interview with Basketballghana.com, Baafi disagreed with all who believe playing more was detrimental to players rather stating the extra input raises the level of players. He said:
“It will not. That will even improve their game because there are some people they don’t start well but they end very well that is why most people like two rounds (for the league) but playoffs is the best .”
He lamented the lack of financial incentives in the league stating the league has not had a sponsor since he started work with the Greater Accra Division over twenty years ago. The need to publicize the league better was another issue he noted that needed to be addressed.
The men’s division will commence today at the Lebanon House in Tudu, Accra at 15:00GMT with Tema Youth taking on Fire Service.
